FAQ

What is a percentage?

Percentage is a way of expressing a number as a fraction of 100. The symbol "%" is often used to illustrate a fraction of the whole or to contrast two figures. As an example, if a flock of birds has 100 birds and 25 of them are red, we could say that the flock holds 25 percent of the red birds.

How do you calculate a percentage?

To work out a percentage, usually take the part (the lesser amount) and divide by the entire sum (the larger amount). Multiply the figure by 100 to get the percentage between 0 and 100. As an example: if you have 60 houses and you want to know what proportion of them are built with stones, 15 of them are built from stone. You would divide 15 by 60 to get 0.25, then multiply by 100 to get 25%.

Why do percentages matter?

Using percentages can be beneficial in many circumstances, from computing discounts and duties to gaging fluctuations in stock values and economic signs. Knowing how percentages work can help you make better decisions in different areas, such as individual finance or corporate administration.
